Any idea what the origins of that name are?
Apparently, it's supposed to be a stylized bastardization of the word "jumak". (Old Korean word for eating/drinking house.)
Wow, I've never even been there. Now I wish I'd gone. I usually end up at Kunjip, no matter what's going on before or after that point. You should do a post on some of your favorite such places in NYC, so that us non-Koreans can be hospitable and impress our visiting Korean co-workers with dinner recommendations. ;)
I'm sorry for your loss in very nummy food *nods* It'd be far and you'd have to cross the border, but if you ever come to Montreal, Qc, Canada you should go to Hwang Kum (VERY AWESOME Korean resto, run by Koreans too - trust me, that's rare here). It's my favourite place to eat. ^_^
