I just wanted to let you in on something I witnessed the other night on TV.
I was watching Game 4 of the ALCS, Boston vs. Tampa. It was the top of the ninth Akinori Iwamura up to bat. Every time a pitch came in some Boston fan could be heard quite clearly in the background screaming out BANZAI.
Pretty racist if you ask me, but probably more idiotic than anything else. Just wanted to let you in on this and see if anyone else noticed this.
The Korean is a Korean American living in Washington D.C. He lived in Seoul until he was 16, then moved to Los Angeles area. The Korean refers to himself in the third person because he thinks it sounds cool.

Thanks for the tip. Reminds the Korean of the "Horry Cow" shirts. Link
ReplyDeleteThough I would say to completedbalanced that banzai can be a celebratory expression, more likely than not it was said with ignorance in mind.
