Holy cow, YB. Shades of Jo Yong-Pil in this performance. (Start at 1:50 mark.)

  1. Wow. What an amazing song. Really. I cannot think of anything else that could possibly be added to make that song better. Thanks for sharing.

  3. I'm not going to pretend that I'm some kind of a musician, but even I noticed two parts where Yoon Do Hyun sounded off. However, that ended up not mattering at all because during his entire performance, he made me sit with my hands clasped together, my mouth agape, and my heart thumping a little too fast. He made my heart sing with that performance, and there was no question that his was the best performance of the night (with Kim Bum Soo coming in a distant second).

By the way, what is your opinion about the Kim Gun Mo controversy?

  4. Blue, as the Korean's musician wife says, it is not about getting everything right, it is about conveying the feel.

As to Kim Gun-Mo, everything about that whole thing was wrong. The PD should not have put it in Kim's hands, and Kim should not have decided to come back. The whole thing was unpleasant.

  6. I really, really LOVE Kim Gun Mo's music, and would have wanted him to stay because he's such a versatile singer who's capable of delivering memorable performances week after week. Thus, I was extremely shocked when I first heard the news that he finished last. However, after seeing his performance, what pissed me off the most was that it was obvious he was just trying to skate on by, relying on his own "national singer" status. He had two weeks to prepare, but his performance of "Lipstick" was something that with his skills, he could have done with just one day of practice.

This is in contrast to Yoon Do Hyun, who made that song his own. He prepared and sang so passionately, and that passion transferred to a "magical" performance for the audience. Besides, Yoon Do Hyun is just awesome. Period.

I agree that as painful as it is, Kim Gun Mo should have just accepted the result and left the show. I still think it's ridiculous the kind of fiasco this all led to in the online community, and hope it doesn't hurt the show in the long run. I really love the show, and it offers a breath of fresh air from all the idol-centered shows these days. I'm just sad to see how this is tainting Kim Gun Mo and Lee Sora's long-established "legend" status, and especially for KGM for whom this is his 20th anniversary since his debut. (hmm, but I thought he made his debut in 1992...)

  7. Actually, the Korean never fully understood KGM's appeal. KGM always seemed to be kind of a hack who got lucky, and this show is confirming the Korean's impression as of now.

On the other hand, the Korean doesn't understand why people are ganging up on Lee Sora. People need to understand that she is an artist, not some waitress who is taking orders. Fortunately, her singing always shakes the heart of even the most dedicated haters.
