I wonder how many Korean American non-adoptees wanted to be white when growing up. I remember growing up wishing I had honey-gold hair and parents who didn't make me memorize the times table over summer vacation.
Probably lots. It goes both ways though. When I went to Korea, I started to wish that my mom had a perm, my dad wore shiny metallic suits and that my grandmother had carried me on her back when I was younger.
The Korean is a Korean American living in Washington D.C. He lived in Seoul until he was 16, then moved to Los Angeles area. The Korean refers to himself in the third person because he thinks it sounds cool.
