You comment that more should have joined the campaign, but it is illegal for foreigners to take part in any kind of political activity, so it was a very risky move. You could say that those that did attend got away without any problems, but that may not have been the case if more had showed up. i'm sure 100+ campaigners would have drawn more media attention, therefore more political + police attention. not what anyone on an e-2 or d visa needs. I hear the 'picnic' was much better attendedAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00025185516856097429noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36405856.post-41478262032119921842012-06-20T13:42:58.115-04:002012-06-20T13:42:58.115-04:00A lot of people seem to think that the Mad Cow Dis...A lot of people seem to think that the Mad Cow Disease episode was the only episode that PD Notebook ever aired. PD Notebook has been in existence for more than 20 years, and has created many path-breaking investigative journalism work. It was PD Notebook, for example, that uncovered the Hwang Woo-Seok fraud for the first time. Considering its entire history, PD Notebook is excellent journalism.T.K. You state:
"Particularly effective was MBC's PD Notebook, an esteemed news magazine show, which ran an expose on the danger of Mad Cow Disease in American beef. Several days of massive protests ensued, to a point that there were whispers that President Lee might have to resign."

This glosses over the fact that the reporters who presented this episode that so enraged the public were later convicted for basically lying and making up facts for this report. So it may have been effective reporting, but not necessarily good reporting.Elizabethhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12236266423799684505noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36405856.post-76502024573317999562012-06-15T17:37:14.755-04:002012-06-15T17:37:14.755-04:00The 'membership' of Facebook groups seems ...The 'membership' of Facebook groups seems to be created by an automatic process where anyone who joins gets everyone on their friend list added as well, and then they need to take themselves off, if they notice.

There is a picnic planned for tomorrow and almost a 140 people have said they will attend with 150 more in the maybe category. It's not a protest or a demonstration. It's a picnic. If the media drops by they will see images contrary to what the MBC video showed: they will see mixed-race couples enjoying the summer sun, some with beautiful children. Some of us will be eating kimbap. Others will be throwing Frisbees, I suppose. No one will be victimizing anyone or spreading AIDS or making Korean girls pregnant and running away.

There won't be any speeches made or people walking around with signs and shouting. Maybe no one will care. That would be too bad, but at least we will have a picnic. Let's hope for another sunny day.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/actionagainstmbc/events/Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36405856.post-47019278125604904992012-06-14T19:10:46.151-04:002012-06-14T19:10:46.151-04:00Very informative. I think it's rather unjust for any particular presidential administration to have that much power over the media.refresh_daemonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14461891308315532959noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36405856.post-36600135543058705442012-06-13T02:09:38.511-04:002012-06-13T02:09:38.511-04:00well, I just would like to ask if the whole MBC go...well, I just would like to ask if the whole MBC go against that president, would he be kicked out of his position? One mistake, howe...Excellent blog post, as always.

One mistake, however - the drama division of MBC was not impacted, save for one day's cancellation of a certain drama. This is because the dramas are produced by outside companies, and not in-house by MBC.

Things have been remarkably normal for the variety programs, as well. In certain cases like ëëŽė (Come to Play), MBC brought in an outside team to run the day-to-day tasks of the program while the original producing team (affiliated with MBC) participated in the strike. The same goes for We Got Married, which recently announced its decision to return to the air.

The only variety program that isn't broadcasting *at all* due to the strike is Infinity Challenge, and that's because the producer of that show - Kim Tae Ho - is considered an irreplacable member of the crew, and the show commands a huge fandom that will literally go berserk once they hear that an outside team will be handling that as well (which recent news reports seem to indicate might possibly happen).Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10475770423459046462noreply@blogger.com
